Wild+Lives

“ …Wild Lives is so desperately important. The people in this book are united by their belief that it is not too late to turn things around. You will be inspired by their stories. You will realize that there is hope for the future if we join the fight, if each of us does our bit.”

– Dr. Jane Goodall
“Wild Lives” is available on Amazon, IndieBound, Barnes & Noble and at many local bookstores.
“A children’s-zoo veterinarian who became an advocate for the world’s dwindling cheetah population. An intrepid Indian scientist who confronted the dangerous scourge of elephant poaching. A pioneering female biologist who became the world’s leading expert on giraffes…With the world facing an unprecedented spate of species extinction, the survival of iconic wildlife, such as the polar bear and such lesser-known creatures as Israel’s long-billed hoopoe, is often up to courageous individuals who commit to their passion and sacrifice their comfort so that the planet maintains a healthy biodiversity. Thanks to the environmentally committed interviewers Robinson and Chodosh, 20 conservationists succinctly tell their stories in this illuminating volume that may well inspire readers to take up the cause.”

Dear Sugar Podcasts

Tiny-Beautiful-ThingsTiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed is one of my favorite books.

If you love it too then I want to remind you that Cheryl is the co-host, along with Steve Almond, of WBUR’s podcast Dear Sugar Radio, which originated with her popular Dear Sugar advice column on The Rumpus and Tiny Beautiful Things is a collection of those advice columns.

That’s good news for the “lost, lonely and heartsick” as new episodes are released weekly. Click here to check it out.

If you have a question for Sugar you can email Sugar at dearsugarradio@gmail.com and perhaps it will get answered on the show. I’ll be listening!!

An Awesome Book Event

Santa Fe author Janie Chodosh had an AWESOME book event for the release of Code Red:
Book 2 in the Faith Flores Science Mystery Series
. Notice I didn’t say book reading…because the evening was way more than just a book reading.fullsizerender-3

Code Red is a young adult novel so one of the first great things Janie did for her book event was arrange for a staged reading to be performed by high school actors from the New Mexico School of the Arts, and they in turn invited their img_5701friends to come and watch.

It was standing room only and Janie had a nice table display set up with Death Spiral, the first book in the series along with Code Red. She came prepared to sell books, bringing extra copies in case the bookstore sold out, which they did.

fullsizerender-1Janie publicized the event through her newsletter, blog and author Facebook page and asked her friends and fans to share. She reached out to local “influencers”, people who have their own blogs and email lists, to help spread the word.

She did a drawing and gave away prizes AND she arranged to have 10% of her book sales that evening donated to the Santa Fe Girls’ School.

Congrats Janie Chodosh! I’m posting this so other authors can follow your lead and have their own awesome book events.img_5723
